Walking and cycling :

Horse riding : Stay at Luccombe Villa and enjoy wonderful riding with Allendale Equestrian Centre. The centre is set in the heart of the Isle of Wight, on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Godshill, just a few miles from Shanklin. The location is unrivalled, situated on a bridle path, enabling you to ride for miles, off-road, on bridleways and along leafy country lanes. Shanklin Chine : The top of Shanklin Chine is just a stone's throw from Luccombe Villa. Chine is a Saxon word meaning deep, narrow ravine formed by water cutting through sandstone and leading to the sea. The Shanklin Chine has been formed over the last 10,000 years and covers an area of approximately three acres. This makes a fantastic walk where you can see wildlife, plentiful plants & woodland and an amazing waterfall. The Chine interests all ages with everything from geology to smuggling. Rylstone Gardens : These have been called the most picturesque in the South of England and so are well worth the visit. You can relax at the café or try your hand at crazy golf. There are also regular open air concerts held in the gardens. The gardens run alongside the Chine, just across the road from Luccombe Villa.

Shanklin Theatre : Almost all of the shows and workshops put on here are compiled and written in house by the resident creative team. The Theatre is open throughout the year with various shows appealing to all ages. Visit www.iwight.com/shanklintheatre for further details.

Shanklin Beach : This area is famous for its sandy beaches and safe areas for bathing. The beach has its own lifeguards and during the peak season it is cleaned every day. Shanklin is popular for watersports of all kinds so you can either go along and have a go or sit back, relax and watch!

Esplanade Golf : There is a 18 hole Crazy Golf Course and 18 hole putting green to be found at the eastern end of the Shanklin Esplanade.

Shanklin Old Village : This area of Shanklin has some of the oldest dwellings on the Isle of Wight and most of them are thatched and so very picturesque. There are plenty of small gift shops and tea rooms.
